A little trip-hop, a little jazz, slightly new age, and all instrumental. This track has everything but lyrics. It just feels good! The artist name is Big Cheez and the song is called "Too Undamaged", which is just how I felt after hearing it.

Have you heard Fiona Apple's third record? If you liked it then there's a good chance you'll also want to listen to this song from Casey Dienel called Doctor Monroe. It's not as throaty as a Fiona Apple song but then again not much is..

Still feeling a bit down.. hopefully this is the last day. In any case, here is a smooth track that reminds me a lot of Zero 7. If you've never heard Zero 7 head over to the iTunes store and grab their "Simple Things" album.

This band is called SharashkA and the track is titled Save. Be sure to check the band's website for more free downloads!

DC Voting Rights

Most people (in the US or elsewhere) don't realize that residents of the District of Columbia have no voting rights in Congress. To refelect this, the car license plates all proclaim "Taxation without Representation" for all tourists to see. People have been trying to do something about it for quite a while now without success. Still, the fight does on. Be sure to read the comments too.

In a little bit of a down mood today after yesterday's bombings. Hunting around for a sad sad song to match it brought me this track called "Vincent O'Brien" by M. Ward. It's off his 'Transfiguration of Vincent' CD. Not sure what license this is under but it is being released by his label as a free download. I would grab it while you can...

Mumbai Bombed

Some people here may know that I frequent Mumbai. So I'm devastated about the bombing that happened today. This is the train that I take back and forth from work and the bombing happened close to the time I'm usually on the platform. The phones are all busy and I can't get through to anyone I know but I am praying that they're ok.

Anyone who has listened to the Tartan Podcast knows just how strange it is that all these people who sound like Groundskeeper Willie when talking can start singing and be indistinguishable from Canadians or Americans. Fast forward 5.2 seconds to Camera Oscura.. a Scottish band with that talent. This song, Let's Get Out of this Country pretty much describes how I felt in 2004 after the last election. Heh.

Ugh! Be glad you didn't have to listen to all the crappy music I did today. Instead, here is an instrumental track courtesy of Salaryman called Port Wine. It's a cheery little tune you can tap your feet to. A good substitute for that morning cup of coffee perhaps.

Commit to Dapper Drake's Subversion from Mac OS X

Posted by Vince Wadhwani on Jul 08, 2006 in | gnu/linux | Mac/BSD

I have subversion set up on my Ubuntu Dapper Drake system and started using it from a Mac running Apple's Tiger OS (OS X 10.4.7) When I ran svn commit I got an error about SVN_EDITOR not being defined. Fortunately there is an easy fix.

You just need to set the environment variable from the command line by typing:

export SVN_EDITOR=/usr/bin/vi

Assuming you are running bash, you can add the following line to your .bash_login file so you don't need to retype it every time you open a terminal window.

DCist & BuyIndie

Posted by Vince Wadhwani on Jul 07, 2006 in | urban

Since I have some spare time these days, I am also going to start writing a BuyIndie piece for DCist. I'm going to focus on independently owned businesses in DC in hopes of giving them some publicity to succeed. My first feature is on a small cafe in Adams Morgan called 90 Minutes.
