Urban Puddle

Often compared to indie rock bands such as Flaming Lips, Radiohead and Grandaddy, Superphones has been acclaimed as one of the best bands in the brazilian alternative scene. This song is called "Lonely Dance".. give it a listen, it may surprise you!

I know that 'trip-hop' has been over used but I have no shame so here it goes...

Here's a short trip-hop (leans heavily like hip-hop) track by a French ensemble known as Cuizinier. It's called Seulment Toi (which translates into 'Only You'). It's a little off the regular pace but I hope you like it anyway.

I had no idea that NoMachine had updated their NX packages to 2.0. This is not news to some of you but it was to me. NX Server is a great package that provides quick remote access to different platforms from different platforms. (Note that NX Server is the same tech but is not the same as FreeNX which is the open source version.) I use NX to test GUI apps on my GNU/Linux servers from Mac OS X or other linux desktops. Version 1.5 for MacOS was giving a problem where the colors were messed up. Version 2.0 fixes that. Here's how to update your servers if you are having that problem:

This is a remix of Lisa DeBenedictis' song by His Boy Elroy. This "passive aggressive" mix of Cuckoo is a hauntingly relaxing piece that gracefully alternates Lisa's melodic voice with exotic instrumental breaks and beats. Very chill.

Or maybe the headline should read: "Federal Government Gives OK to Verizon to Divert Money to Corporate Coffers". Because in essence, that's what is going on here. After lobbying Congress to get rid of a DSL surcharge, Verizon is coincidentally adding a DSL surcharge of almost the exact same amount. Verizon 1, Customers 0.

A fantastic track by The North Atlantic called "Scientist Girl". I can't quite put my finger on who it is they remind me of, but it's mostly irrelevant since the song is so good. Immediately made my iTunes collection. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Here's a picture of the band in case you're wondering.

True story. This guy just ran 51 marathons in the course of 50 days to raise money for Katrina victims. He is a hero. I don't want to take away from his fabulous accomplishment, but I do feel a little sad that individual efforts of this caliber are required to overcome the unbalanced efforts of insurance companies to not pay the victims of the hurricane.

Slowing it down with a long ambient piece by Dream Lab called "Cryogenic Suspension". This is a good track to listen to while working on your computer or doing yoga. It has an easy, light, other-worldly feel that's perfect for adding a little extra boost to your day while still letting you concentrate on what ever tasks are at hand.

Ah, the girls of hba are back. This time with a track called Forward to War. Timely given the circumstances these days. I don't think this is as engaging a track as some of their previous efforts but it's still enjoyable and hey, it's free and still really good music. If you like hba then definitely download and add to your (hopefully growing) music collection.
