New Nokia N73 Firmware
Posted by Vince Wadhwani on Jun 19, 2007
Nokia released another version of their firmware recently. This time we're up to version 4.0723.2.0.1. At least this time they waited a while. So what's new?
Quite a bit this time actually. I've noticed that they finally fixed the checkbox bug I've been complaining about for ages. Now, when you visit a website on your browser, you can elect to have the site remember you by selecting the checkbox.
The biggest thing, however, is that the standard N73 now comes with the much improved music player that was first introduced in the ME version of the N73. That means if you were patient and opted not to flash your N73 firmware you've finally been rewarded.
Here are some other things I've heard but not had a chance to confirm. (I'll mark them as I do confirm or you can leave a comment below
- Snakes is gone [confirmed]
- New music player [confirmed]
- Checkbox bug fixed [confirmed]
- Now supports AD2P
- Better Picture Quality
- Added FOTA abilities
- Vox support [did I miss it earlier?]
I'm looking forward to playing around with the phone again. Kudos to Nokia for continuing to improve the product long after it's been released.
Where did you download the firmware? I downloaded the latest Nokia Software Updater and it says I have the latest firmware.

That happened to me the first time too.. it was a bit confusing. Make sure you have the latest version of the Nokia software updater and try it a couple of times. Not sure why it fails to detect the new firmware sometimes.

But where to get it from, Nokia Australia is saying that V 3.0638.0.0.1 is still the latest.
Your help will be much appreciated.

Is this update available for 3?

Hmm. Apparently this update doesn’t work for the N73 ME edition. It is only for the original N73 - which is kind of retarded.

@Bryan: I think this update mostly brings the vanilla N73 up to speed with the ME so it’s not too surprising that there’s no equivalent update for the N73 ME.
The only other thing I noticed is that there’s now a very brief vibration when you turn the phone on. It helps indicate to the user that the power button was successfully turned on since it takes a while for visual feedback.
