Update: June 19, 2007 See part 4 here.

Nokia is on a roll, for the second time this month, they've released a new version of the firmware for the N73 Smartphone. This time we're up to version 3.0704.1.0.1. (Say that five times fast!) So what's new? Well, back-up your data and then let's find out!

As usual, in order to even start, you'll need to download a new version of the Nokia software update (66 MB) just to start the process of downloading the new firmware (23MB). You should be at version 1.32 of the Nokia updater when done. What a pain in the ass -- why can't these guys write an updater that updates without have to update the freaking updater each time? It's like having to download a new version of Windows just to download the security updates. Well, not really. But you get the point.

So what did this fix? Reports have come in showing:

  1. Better sound quality in Loudspeaker for music and ringtone
  2. Faster running of applications
  3. Return of the Settings Wizard, with more operators in the list
  4. Faster saving of pictures to memory.

One thing this did not fix was the checkbox bug in the browser. You *still* can't check a box telling a site to remember who you are. That means putting in those long usernames and passwords for all those sites you like to frequent. C'mon Nokia.. you can't make us sit through two updates in a month and not address this! Oh wait, you did.

People have also reported getting an "Internal module error" when trying to update. The fault, naturally, is not with Nokia but rather with Microsoft whose XML4 DLL silent installation may fail. In order to fix it you have to manually register the DLL:

Go to Start > Run > enter "regsvr32 C:\WINNT\system32\msxml4.dll" > OK > OK.
